HUMANA is an exploration into human imperfections in the vein of Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"). Kintsukuroi is the Japanese art of of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art.

I photographed several subjects after a short interview into their insecurities and parts of their body they perceived as physical “impurities” to help them embrace these features.
